Most of what people call a gas fireplace service is a wipe of the glass. A real one is a strip, a clean, a set of measurements and a safety verification — and it is the visit that finds the problem before it becomes a repair.
On every service visit
- Logs removed, burner pulled, pan and ports cleaned
- Logs reset to the manufacturer's diagram — misplaced logs are the single most common cause of sooting and a smell in the room
- Pilot assembly cleaned, thermopile output measured under load
- Blower removed, cleaned and lubricated; bearing and draw checked
- Glass removed, cleaned inside and out, gasket inspected and reseated
- Remote, receiver and wall switch tested
- Full gas leak test and combustion check, as above

Every connection gets tested, every visit
A gas leak on a fireplace is almost never dramatic. It is a slow weep at a flare fitting or a valve stem that nobody smells because it sits behind a sealed firebox. That is exactly why it gets found on a service call and almost nowhere else.
What we test for leaks
- Shutoff valve, flare fittings and every threaded joint at the appliance
- Gas valve body, pilot tubing and manifold connections
- Flex connector condition — the part that fails with age and movement
- Electronic gas detector on all accessible connections, plus a bubble test to confirm
- Inlet and manifold pressure on a manometer, against the rating plate
If we find a leak, we shut the gas at the appliance and tell you exactly where it is before anything else happens. That part is not negotiable.
The part a visual inspection cannot see
A gas fireplace can look perfect and still spill combustion products into the room. A cracked heat exchanger, a blocked termination cap, a failed glass gasket or a bird's nest in the vent will all do it, and none of them are visible from the hearth.
What the combustion check covers
- Carbon monoxide reading at the appliance and in the room
- Spillage test at the draft hood or termination
- Full vent run inspected for blockage, separation and corrosion
- Termination cap and exterior screen — the usual home for nests
- Glass gasket seal integrity on a direct-vent unit
- Flame pattern and burner port condition — sooting is a symptom, not a look
- Oxygen depletion sensor and safety shutoff verified to operate
You get the CO reading in writing. If it is clean, you have a record. If it is not, you find out from us and not from a headache.
