What we found
Water staining on the ceiling near the chimney. The flashing at the roof line had been patched with roofing cement that had dried and cracked.
What we did
Old patchwork stripped out and new step and counter flashing installed, layered correctly with the roofing and sealed to move with the structure.
Why it mattered
If you can see tar at a chimney flashing, that joint has been failing for a while. Tar is a patch. Metal, layered properly, is the repair.
